For our 50th episode of She Rises with Rachel Clare, I'm sitting down with my friend Josie Barrow for a conversation about personal revelation, unexpected opportunities, and learning to trust God when you can't see the whole picture.
Josie's life certainly hasn't followed a predictable path. She's a wife, mother, grandmother, college instructor, and event manager for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she helps coordinate temple open houses and dedications around the world. But her journey to this remarkable role wasn't something she could have planned.
From returning to school and earning her master's degree to making a major career change that required a leap of faith for her entire family, Josie shares how she's learned to recognize and follow personal promptingsā€”even when they don't make sense at first.
We talk about the uncomfortable space between receiving a prompting and understanding its purpose, the courage it takes to move forward without a clear roadmap, and how doors can open in ways we never anticipated.
Josie also shares how traveling the world has deepened her love for God's children, strengthened her appreciation for temples, and taught her to see people with greater empathy and compassion. Her experiences serving communities around the world are a beautiful reminder that the temple is more than a building. It's a source of light, hope, and connection for people whose sacrifices to worship there often look very different from our own.
One of my favorite reminders from this conversation is that we don't have to understand every step before we take it. Sometimes, we simply need to act on the prompting we've received and trust that understanding will come as we move forward.
